Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am tasked with the pleasure of teaching enthusiastic third grade students in all subject areas. These students are curious, intelligent, and creative beyond all measures. They attend a Visual and Performing Arts Magnet in Los Angeles. Being that our school is an Art's Magnet, we try to integrate art in all forms into as many subject areas as possible. The students at this school come from various backgrounds with various life experiences. Funding for some of our materials is difficult to come by. I appreciate you coming to our page and would appreciate and support you could give.
My Project
I am trying to turn my classroom into a flexible seating environment. This means that the students will be able to choose from a variety of seats when they arrive at school. Studies have shown that allowing students to have variety and choice will improve their ability to focus and concentrate on their work. I want my students to walk in the classroom and to feel empowered as to where they will best be able to be their best. Having their materials located in bins that can be moved around the classroom can help with this. Balance balls are a great option for students who have issues with attention. The movement from the ball helps to absorb their energy and they can focus better on their work. Stools are another great choice for students who want to sit without being at a traditional desk. They help develop the students core muscles while they sit. The bouncy bands are another tool for students with sensory needs. They can rest their feet and this can help some students with focus as well. With 24 students in all these seating option will give me a healthy starting point to get started. Every year as students chance along with the needs, I will continue to grow the options but it is good to know they will will be able to have various opportunities throughout the school day to work with myself, with a group of students, or alone. I am excited to take this journey and these materials will allow me the freedom to begin.
