Welcome to the Wolff Pack! My Wolff pups love school, love learning, and love each other. Every day I am amazed at the kindness and empathy my students have, especially for each other. They recognize, accept, and forgive. They celebrate each other's successes as if they were their own. And they are so excited about everything!
The students in my classroom want to run and play, have endless energy, and due to increasingly rigorous academic standards, need to spend more and more time sitting.
They are 6 and 7 years old and I am asking them to sit at a desk almost all day. I need to find ways for them to move AND learn!
There are students in my class who come from economically challenged families, speak English as a second language, and those who have special needs requiring an Individualized Education Plan. Some have needs that special education doesn't address. But all are still early in their educational career. They need a solid foundation to continue. They need to continue to love school!
My Project
First graders have bountiful energy. When we ask them to sit at a desk all day, some spend tons of energy on the simple task of sitting. I would rather they spend tons of energy on the reason they are at school - to learn!
Flexible seating has worked in many classrooms to offer students choices of how they will best be able to concentrate and learn.
Some students like to stand. Some like traditional chairs. And some like to move! These Hokki stools will allow students to move while sitting and learning.
Each year I have students who rock on their chairs during instruction and work time. Hokki stools are designed for rocking. I can't wait for my students to try these out!
