Help me give my students flexible seating with wobble cushions, floor seats, and balance ball chairs to maximize their comfort and freedom in deciding the best way for them to learn!
Each individual first grader brings something very unique and special into the classroom. My students are smart, kind, caring, funny, and very insightful young children. We are a first grade class consisting of 23 students( 13 girls, 10 boys) and 1 teacher.
I am their fourth and final teacher of the school year.
This class started with a great teacher who left unexpectedly, and then did an amazing job at acclimating to two substitute teachers for almost three months before I became their permanent teacher for the rest of the school year. These students have shown flexibility, understanding, and respect for their school and their circumstances and they deserve the absolute best.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to do their best learning. In the first grade, students engage in reading, writing, phonics, math, social emotional, science, and social studies lessons. Usually these lessons involve students meeting on the rug by sitting on the floor and then returning to their seats for individual or group learning time.
As students work at their own seats, flexible seating allows young children to stand, wobble, bounce, rock or lean which increases oxygen flow to the brain while strengthening the core.
When students are free to work in a position that is most comfortable to them, we create a culture of productivity. My six and seven year old students will greatly benefit from classroom furniture and seating options that will allow them to control their body and learning.
