Flexible Seating for First Graders

My Students

I have 25 six and seven-year-old children in my first-grade classroom. Every morning, the students walk into the classroom ready to learn!

I want to offer my students the best education possible.

We have access to some great learning tools yet we are lacking in things that would academically support the children. There are many different personalities and learning styles in the classroom. In order to fully support their learning, I need to stay on top of what keeps them engaged and moving forward.

My Project

My students need bins (DRÖNA Box and Lakeshore Storage Box) that hold their materials and that are easily accessible to them. Teaching independence is an important life skill that will be used throughout their lives.

Students deserve the right to choose where they learn the best.

I want to provide flexible seating for the students. Besides traditional seating, we would like to have rocker chairs (American Plastic Toys Scoop Rocker) and yoga mats (Curl up/yoga mat set - assorted colors- 6 set) for them to do their work.

During small group instruction, the children need whisper phones (Hear Myself Sound Phone - Set of 10) so they are able to quietly read to themselves. In order for me to coach and hear them reading, I need a chair (Essentials by OFM swivel mesh back task chair with arms, mid back, black) that can comfortably reach them. This will help me move to different children at the small group table.
