Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Within the NYC Public school system is District 75. District 75 houses the highest needs special needs students and oftentimes, these students also fall into the highest needs economically disadvantaged category. Over 90% of my students fall into this category. We are a 12-month program, where students attend year-round to receive services.

My students are part of the largest school district in the country (the NYC DOE) and fall into the highest needs category.

For years, I have poured my own money into my classroom, but it is not enough! I have reached out to local community members and collected used and refurbished computers, but they do not meet the requirements to run modern software.

I teach grades K-8 and a total of 9 classes, a daily lunch club and a weekly positive behavior intervention club as a reward for students. All students would have access to these resources!

That is why today, I am reaching out for global support to help our highest needs students get an equal chance to succeed! We truly need your assistance to level the playing field. Many students come from homes that do not have internet access or technology, further increasing the achievement gap.

My Project

Each day in addition to teaching technology, I host a computer/technology club during lunch, and a special technology event once a week for students who work hard and behave well.

I am teaching technology out of our school cafeteria, and students are sitting on uncomfortable cafeteria benches.

Many of my students have difficulty sitting still and would greatly benefit from the opportunity to have seats they can move around in. I have researched, spoke to colleagues from other schools, and visited and seen with my own eyes the tremendous difference flexible seating can make for students who have difficulty sitting still!

As an added bonus, the ball chairs I am looking to order promote health and wellness by having students maintain good posture and not slouch in their chairs, engaging their cores!

If you can't stay engaged in a lesson or stay in your seat; you can't learn! If you're out running in the halls or wandering the classroom because you just need to move; you can't learn. Let's reinvent the classroom and change how these students learn! I know that we can make a huge difference and set a model example by working together! Thank you so much for your support!
