Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a bilingual teacher in a low-income school, my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school each day excited and ready to learn. I have 19 boys and 19 girls in my 3th grade class, they have their own unique learning styles. As they attend to class each day, they work extremely hard to overcome challenges and also to become very successful learners.
My students need flexible seating as some may tire from sitting in chairs all day, they wish to have a place to sit away from their desk, in which they can be comfortable, but remain focused so they can productively complete their work and reach their goals.
My Project
My classroom environment should encourage collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. This simply cannot be done when kids are forced to sit at their desks all day. Kid’s need flexible seating in the classroom because an uncomfortable student, is a distracted and unproductive student.
Traditional desks can make students territorial or possessive over their space and supplies, flexible seating will empower students to select a productive seat and take ownership over their learning, whether they are working collaboratively or independently.
Giving students the power to choose their own learning style and space is a wonderful tool to teach students to be lifelong learners!
