My class is a group of 7 students with Autism with many of them having different sensory needs. They come to school each day full of energy and smiles, ready to explore and learn!
It can be very difficult for my students to remain focused and seated for extended periods of time.
Providing them with flexible seating choices will allow them to remain engaged and comfortable during small group and whole group instruction. Giving them a variety of seating to choose from will also promote making their own choices that best suit their independent wants and needs.
It can be very uncomfortable sitting in a typical classroom chair all day. My students have many different sensory needs making flexible seating options very important in my class. Many of my students need to move often, which is why the wobbly stools and exercise balls will be very beneficial to them allowing them to remain seated with some movement.
In my classroom, one of the main goals for each of our students is for them to become as independent as possible.
Giving them flexible seating variety allows them to make a choice for themselves, making choices to get their wants and needs met.
This project would significantly help my students remain engaged and on task throughout their day providing them comfort and freedom to choose. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces if we are able to provide these seating options for them!
