Flexible Seating for Busy Bodies

My students need more engaging spaces to work - I have requested a low table so that students can sit on the floor on a cushion and continue to have a table space.

My Students

My students are creative, intelligent, and fun! Our school serves a neighborhood in DC. Our curriculum is rigorous. Our students are kind and take their schooling very seriously. They work hard and are quite competitive in academic instruction and projects.

Third graders need to move in order to learn.

The Common Core Standards require that students complete extended writing assignments and projects. As a teacher my job is to give them all the tools they need to complete extended work assignments. Please help me help my students!

My Project

Have you ever had a time that you just couldn't sit still and pay attention? I know I have! My third graders have these moments each day. I want to give them a variety of seating options to help them focus and give them more autonomy over their learning. My project requests a low table so that some students can sit on the floor with a cushion while they work. Also, wobble seats and chairs that use a stability ball will give students with attention issues additional options for seating. I had a few students this year that used wobble seats and it really made a difference for them!

Where and how students are seated can be the difference between an unfinished writing assignment and a well organized and thoughtful piece!

Seating options can make all the difference for struggling students!

I seen new office spaces where flexible seating and many seating options is a priority. I would love to provide that in my classroom. More options for seating and work space will add interest and engagement to everyday tasks.
