I am the proud teacher of a wonderful group of fifth graders at Creekview Intermediate. Our fifth grade team is comprised of 75 amazing students. We are a full inclusion team so our students have a wide variety needs and abilities.
Our school is moving toward personalized learning for all of our students.
On our fifth grade team, 40% of our students are on individualized education plans. We work hard to differentiate our instruction to meet the needs of each learner. Our goal is for every student to have a personalized learning plan over the next two years.
Our school focuses on developing a growth mindset in our students. We want our students to believe in themselves and be able to persevere through difficult situations. Our school and classroom environments are set up to reflect these habits of mind.
My Project
Our school has taken on an initiative to provide flexible seating options for our students. Studies show that students learn best when they have some control over their environment. Flexible seating gives students a choice of where they sit and offers many other benefits. It can help students learn in a way they are most comfortable. Comfortable students are calm, focused, and productive. Flexible seating also lends itself to collaboration. It makes it easy for students to pair up and work in small groups. Many students are affected by sensory issues. Flexible seating can stimulate students' sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help students focus and process information.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
I believe the most important part of my job is the students. If student motivation and higher engagement is our end goal, then we as teachers must provide our students what they need to get there.
