I have the privilege of teaching third graders at my school. These kiddos come to school every day with a smile on their face and are ready to take on the world. Although we are a small school, these students have the support of an outstanding community to help them tackle any challenges that come their way.
Our students are full of creativity, passion, and curiosity.
They love to move around the room. A typical day in our classroom will show anyone how different spots around the room are more successful to each individual student. Some students are found standing, while others prefer sitting on the ground. Some are constantly moving, while some sit very still in order to focus. By individualizing our classroom environment, we can help make learning fun and more meaningful.
My Project
Last year, flexible seating was introduced into my classroom. It was a HUGE success, and students left 3rd grade with a greater responsibility to make successful choices! Every day, students had the opportunity to choose a learning space in the classroom that fit their needs. More active students worked at standing desks or wobble stools. Others chose to work at floor tables or traditional desks. Students were noticeably more engaged in their work, less distracting to peers, and showed incredible growth in their learning. Since flexible seating was new to both myself and my students last year, we fell short in a few areas. Throughout the year, I noticed shortages of particular seating options, like the standing desks, ball chairs, and wobble stools.
All students should have the opportunity to be successful.
This year, I want to set up a classroom where every student can have the learning space that they need. The bed risers and stools will be used to transform traditional desks into standing desks. The wobble stool, seats, and ball chair will accomodate students who are more active, and the floor chairs and desk will We spend a lot of time in our classroom, and these flexible seating materials will help my students tremendously. By creating a more comfortable, individualized environment, students will flourish in their learning. Thank you for supporting our class!
