Remember coming home from school eager to tell your parents about how your day went? My job as an educator is to make sure my students are excited about their learning!
I work at a school where 99% of my kids are army dependents.
My students are some of the sweetest kids around who work hard and strive to do their best every day!
Parents are found facing deployments, field time, or working 14 hour shifts just to come home and tuck their kids into bed. Many of my kids have been in 3 different schools already and they are only in fifth grade!
My Project
My students have been requesting to move about the classroom and sit in the best place for them. Many of my students have realized that they are able to focus on their schoolwork better if they have the choice to move about freely during their independent work time. I am constantly fielding questions from my students where they request to move to a different seating place or area, to stand up while they work, or to even lay on the rug. Although I have many hard chairs for my students, I do not have enough alternative seating options to meet their individual needs. The students in my classroom expect to be moving and actively engaged at school. Flexible seating is so important to meeting the individualized needs of my students.
This kid-inspired project offers students with comfortable options for seating, while promoting healthy lifestyles, high engagement and increased attention spans at the same time.
Adding a standing desk with fidget bar will provide students with an opportunity to move freely while they work. The footrest bar is perfect for those students to keep moving while redirecting fidgeting behavior. The two ball chairs and Hokki stools will give students the ability to move, wiggle, and bounce in their seat while working on their lessons. Bu using these seats in small group instruction, my students will be provided with the physical movement and increased mental focus, which will help build the skills needed to be successful in school. My students know what helps them be the best they can be in my classroom and these Hokki stools and ball chairs will be a solution to their problem.
My students will be active all day long with these materials! They know what they need to be successful which is being active and moving!
