My Students

I am anticipating a classroom full of twenty-five inquisitive, creative, and active 3rd graders whom are coming to school with a love of learning, need to collaborate with their peers, as well as learning how to develop problem solving skills.

My classroom is made up of diverse learners from a wide range of backgrounds.

Some of my students are English Language Learners (ELLs), some of my students receive free and/or reduced lunch and some have special learning needs. All of my students need to be actively engaged in their learning and need a classroom that can meet the needs of these diverse learners. Children need to be able to move their bodies to get their brain-firing neurons for reading, math, science, social studies, writing, and art. Children also need an environment that is relaxing, and engaging.

My Project

Flexible seating will allow my students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that are most effective for them during their learning. During independent work times they will be able to choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students utilize these various tools to help engage their focus and attention through a variety of tools in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. Making sure my students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a different form for their seating, aside from the traditional chair. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.

The tools which that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices.

The wobble stools and bouncy chairs will allow students to sit at their desks and or tables, but will still allow some movement; while keeping their cores engaged. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get their wiggles out to obtain focus. The laptop seats will offer another alternative of seating to remain engaged.
