My students are located in an urban school setting. We have a diverse population of great kids! Our classroom includes English Language Learners as well as students from all different social economic groups. Even with the challenges many students face, they are amazing young people.
They begin the school year anxious and develop amazing life skills throughout the year.
At the end of school year, these young people have learned to become assertive in a positive way and how to be in charge of their own learning. In the process, we create a welcoming and nurturing environment that allows for choices.
In our project-based classroom, it is important to be able to easily move to where their group mates are. Moveable and comfortable chairs provide the optimal, and much quieter, learning environment.
For example, to best utilize the math manipulatives, students spread out on the floor.
Because we do not have carpeted floors floor chairs and bean bag chairs create a more comfortable work environment. Students also group together for reading and writing and need to sit multiple groups around the room.
Alexis is a great tool for a special needs and ELL classroom. We will quickly be able to translate, define words and set timers throughout our day.
