Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The amazing students in my classroom are incredibly hardworking, and they work for nearly everything they have. In my urban, primarily African-American classroom, my 7th grade students are eager to grow despite all hardships and circumstances.

Over 95% of my students come from low-income homes where resources are limited but heart and passion is abundant.

Many of my students have learning disabilities and they qualify as struggling readers. Because of this, they have unlimited potential and space for growth.

My Project

The students in my classroom always ask to sit in the corner of my room titled, "The Cozy Corner" because they absolutely work better when their bodies are comfortable. However, that area is currently only a decorated file cabinet with pillows, Christmas lights, and a shower curtain, fitting only two students. The various flexible seating items will help students with stations, gallery walks, and student engagement.

In many of the activities we do in my language arts classroom, the students have to move all over the room, and regular desks aren't conducive to our projects.

The new seating will give students a more comfortable learning environment, and will allow them choice in their seating rotation.
