My students need a variety of seating options to choose from in order to be the best learners they can be.

My Students

The amazing fourth grade students I work with, prove each and every day that through hard-work and determination all things are possible! My students come from a variety of backgrounds and have diverse learning needs. The wide range of abilities and interests in my class, make differentiation a must! The students love to work in cooperative groups, engage in discourse in all subjects, complete rigorous, student-centered assignments and projects, and participate in goal-setting and reflection. Our classroom is a positive, fun place to learn and my students bring so much color and sparkle to our learning community.

My students are curious learners, who consistently ask questions and dig deeper to understand what we are learning.

Providing choice in how my students learn, as well as how they demonstrate their understanding, helps me to reach all of my students. The independence and love of learning my students develop throughout the year are inspiring and makes me want to be the best possible teacher I can be for them!

My Project

My students are in my classroom for 3 hours in the morning and then again for a 2.5 hour block in the afternoon. That is a long time to be sitting! I'd like to provide my students with a variety of seating options to help them better focus during these blocks of time. I believe that having choices in where and how they sit will help my students be comfortable and thus ready to learn. The novelty of the seats will catch their attention, but being able to determine the way in which you learn best, will help my students continue to make the best decisions for themselves as learners.

Comfort and choice are huge in building classroom community and inspiring learning.

These seating options will be utilized every day, in every subject to support the students. Research has shown that flexible seating is beneficial to students with attention difficulties, as well as to all students. A variety of seating options will help the oxygen flow to the brain and keep my students focused during learning. This project will help my students be comfortable, responsible, engaged scholars!
