My Students

I teach 22 amazing 3rd graders in Durham, North Carolina! My students are crazy about reading, and you can always find a student lost in a book in my classroom. Throughout the day, my students love to share their reading with me, each other, and anyone passing in the hallway.

My students love to learn and try new things.

They inspire me to be innovative and creative when planning lessons for them. I want to be able to give them the education they deserve. I teach in a Title I school and try to provide my students with as much extra resources as possible, whether books, snacks, and recently flexible seating options.

My Project

My students love to wiggle and move when they are learning. That is not so easily done with a regular chair. I have begun to include yoga balls in our classroom and my students have become more engaged and feel more comfortable in the classroom. These supplies will help provide more students with the opportunity to have flexible seating and learn in a more comfortable way for themselves. My students also have tables instead of desks. The flexible seating has actually given us more space in the classroom and allows students to more easily move around the room to find a more comfortable or effective place for them to work.
