In my classroom I have 18 students, each with their own preferences and learning styles. My goal is to provide my students the opportunity to choose the seat in my classroom that best enables them to learn. This school year, I have an extremely active class with a variety of different needs. What one students requires to comfortably work is different than another student's needs.
By introducing flexible seating into my classroom, collaboration will be emphasized, along with ownership of their workspace.
Students benefit from different seating options that are as different as each personality and learning style. What best promotes active engagement for one student may provide distraction for another. Multiple options for seating will better address individual student needs and give students ownership, leading to more productive placement around the classroom.
The seating options I have selected will serve a variety of student needs. They will allow multiple types of learners to maximize their productivity. I have seen flexible seating be utilized successfully in different classroom environments and am excited to be able to provide this opportunity for my own students in the near future.
