My students need a standing desk so that I can provide options for them to choose how they learn and interact with the curriculum. My ultimate goal is to create a flexible learning environment!
I teach a wide range of students. One class is a homogeneous GATE class, which still has a variety of abilities, skillsets, interests, etc. My other class has a low/medium ELD cluster, which means that I have students who speak little to no English. I have both classes for Language Arts, Literature, and Social Studies. I strive to differentiate as much as possible. We also do a lot of collaborative activities.
Having such a wide range of students is a gift for teachers like me since I love differentiation and I love trying to create lessons that are motivating and engaging for all students.
My Project
Having a School Specialty standing work station will allow for greater opportunities for collaboration and choice in my classroom. Students can choose to work at their regular desk, on a floor cushion, or at a standing desk. When students start to feel restless, they can take their book or laptop to the standing desk and continue with their learning without interrupting the other students.
As I start the journey towards transforming my classroom into a more flexible, interactive learning environment, having a standing desk will be the first step to achieving this vision.
I chose the Standing Work Station Adjustable Height 34 to 42 inches 48W X 24D.
