This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class forms part of a diverse community of learners in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. A typical day in my classroom involves challenging students to overcome their fears as learners.
The school I am currently working in is a Title I School that services children of different backgrounds and learning abilities.
Students are exposed to hands on activities and collaborative groups to form meaningful and long lasting learning. My students are always eager and attentive to learn new things everyday.
My Project
Flexible seating, such as wobble chairs, wobble cushions and a floor table is a need in my classroom to help students meet their learning needs to their fullest potential. This year my classroom is formed of diverse learners that need specific equipment that can help them adjust to a new school year, promote a positive classroom learning environment and provide opportunities for growth in academics. Through flexible seating students feel a sense of empowerment as they have the option to select the best area in which they feel comfortable to work in. Flexible seating promotes movement as students are able to wobble, lean, stand etc as they work. Most importantly, flexible seating will encourage and increase a sense of community and collaborative learning. Students will be able to take turns in seating in a comfortable place of their choice. Students are able to move quickly without the hassle of moving desk around to join or work with a group of students. Overall flexible seating, will directly impact my students by stimulating a sense for learning.
