This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a group of culturally-diverse and energetic children with severe learning disabilities, who have individualized educational plans. They are living in an urban setting, attending a public school where teachers and administrators strive to find the leader in all students. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure and motivation.
They are very active and creative students who learn best through project-based learning activities that address their learning styles using the multi-sensory approach.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the strategies and environment in which they learn vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, independent, and individualized instruction with alternative seating to ensure that each student's needs are met. Every day students come to school full of energy, expecting to be busy from the beginning to the end of the day.
My Project
Flexible seating empowers students by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. It allows students to choose where they want to work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed.
Flexible seating will allow my students with different abilities to have a better learning experience while they are relaxed and focused.
Being comfortable is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior. The set of flexible seating will help students to work in small groups or independently. These items will be located and move out throughout the classroom to provide students with a choices according to the material they are learning about. If they are going to read, they may place a seat in a quiet corner while other students may be observing a science experiment in the comfort of a bean bag.
