Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We will have a class of 27 beautiful students who come to school eager and ready to learn. We teach our students to be leaders in and outside of the classroom. This means they are in charge of themselves and are responsible for making their futures great by making the right choices.
We may be a special education ICT classroom, but our needs don't define us.
For some students, our classroom is a safe haven where they know they are loved and encouraged to always do their best. Our students come from various ethnic backgrounds. Additionally, with our school being a Title I school, many of our families come from a low socio-economic class. Students have the opportunities to receive free meals throughout the school day including breakfast, lunch, and an after-school snack. Despite what some may view as disadvantages, our students always maintain a positive attitude and strive to do their best.
My Project
This year, we want to create an engaging environment that allows our students to choose the type of seating that works best for them during work time. With flexible seating options, our students can be more in control of their learning needs. In the past, our students have been able to work at their desks, small group table, sitting/lying on the carpet, or use clipboards on the floor.
Our students are more engaged in their work when given the choice of where to work with their fellow peers.
The products we have selected will help give our students a variety of flexible seating options. Lap desks will help students who want to work on the carpet while feeling as if they are sitting at their desks. With wobble cushions, students can use them on the floor, carpet or even at their desks. These cushions can help those students who move around in their seats get their wiggles out. By adding a fidget band around the bottom of each chair or stool will allow each student to bounce out their energy while working. Stools will help give our students the flexibility to sit anywhere they want in the classroom. Attaching tennis balls to the bottom of each leg of their chair will reduce the amount of noise that comes from students moving their seats throughout the day.
We hope that giving students more choice in their seating will help our students get more engaged in their work.
