Flexible Seating and STEM for Second Graders

My students need clipboards and carpet squares for flexible seating options, creative play options for STEM, and incentive charts for extrinsic and intrinsic motivation.

My Students

My students strive to do their best in all that they do! We live in rural America in Shelby, North Carolina. They are excited about learning and make the best of every situation.

They take pride in the work that they do, and always excitedly say Miss Viole look at this.

They love to be Challenged and inspired by the world around them and any task they are given.

They call out when they finally conquer the task that at the beginning of the year felt nothing short of impossible. These students are bright and capable.

My Project

My students need to be able to learn in an environment that is comfortable and motivating to them. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them.

Currently my students don’t have many environments that they can work in, adding carpets squares and clipboards will allow students to work anywhere in the room.

Students do a noticeably better job at work when they are given choices. Sometimes students can’t have a choice in the work they do, but given them a choice in where and how they do their work will benefit them greatly.

I believe that the choices I have made for clipboards and carpet squares, along with some STEM activities and incentive charts will give students the drive they need to be able to work their hardest at all times.

I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
