I teach in a school that nearly 100 percent of the students receive free or reduced lunches. My students come from homes that face economic hardships, instability and homelessness. I work in a part of town that is often considered dangerous and violent.
Despite the hardships my students face, they come to class everyday smiling and ready to learn.
I am noticing more and more of my students are having problem staying focus and have ADHD. My goal as a teacher is to provide for all of my students regardless if they have special needs such as ADHD or not the best as I can. I will always work hard to bring my students new, engaging, fun, creative and hands-on lessons, epecially my ADHD students so they can focus more. I love having the chance to use Donors Choose as it allows me to bring resources and materials to my students. It is an incredible gift to watch my students grow and learn throughout the year.
Having to sit still isn't fun. Students are asked to sit still and listen for long periods of time every day they are at school. For a child who is ADHD, just sitting for 5 mintues seem like forever. Research proves an active mind can retain more information in the long term area. This is why allowing students, especially my active ADHD and special needs students to stand and move on a childeren multifunction rower would be a huge help. In my class, I have a few special needs students who have ADHD and letting them have the option to stand and move allows them the chance to engage more deeply in their learning.
Lowering students' anxiety increases their ability to focus and learn!
I am also asking for snacks to help my students keep their tummys full for more learning in the long afternoon. The children multifunction rower will not only enhance the my special needs/ADHD students' academics, but will also increase their self confidence, and self esteem! Mostly, it will help my all my students to stay healthy and fit during learning.
