My Students
Our school is an urban school of approximately 800 students, many of which are lower income. I love when my students come to me asking to borrow books and for book recommendations. When they have a full library of options they are more likely to choose a book that interests them.
I want to give my students an option for borrowing books that’s easy and accessible for them.
Our local library often does not have more than one copy of a book and many of our bookstores have closed down in recent years.
I also want to create a reading environment in the classroom where students can come and enjoy the process of reading.
My Project
Small group work is a vital part of preparing students for the world after their schooling is complete. Being able to work comfortably and have all the supplies they need to be successful is something I strive for in my classroom. I have started the process of creating a more welcoming library environment in my room.
I have noticed that my students are enjoying working in the library area due to the comfortable seating and I want to expand that area to accommodate a more functional small group environment.
My hope is to acquire comfortable flooring, additional bookshelves, and whiteboard paper in order to make that area of the room more of a workspace instead of being just the library area.
