Flexible Seating and Small Group Instruction= Academic Success
Help me give my students the benefit of small group instruction with flexible seating using the wobble chairs, pocket charts and rolling cart to help bolster their skills and promote academic success.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are happy and eager learners. They attend an elementary school in the Lennox School District. My students come from low income non affluent communities where there is a high likelihood that both parents work one or two jobs each to make ends meet. There is a significant financial gap that is as apparent as the education gap between my students and more affluent students. They are happy to arrive at school and receive the love and support from their learning community. They are special to me because they are genuinely excited to come to school every day to learn.
My Project
Students are focusing on having meaningful conversations to enhance their learning experiences. It is proven that open dialogue among students is key to a deeper understanding of content. One of the best parts of teaching is witnessing a struggling student have an aha moment through deep conversation with a peer.
My students need flexible seating options to make meaningful conversations and learning opportunities more accessible.
Students want to learn and grow and converse with their peers, but it is not always possible due to the layout of our classroom. Flexible seating will allow my students to move freely around the room and sit comfortably while conversing and working with their peers.
By receiving these flexible wobble stools it will not just impact one student's life but more than 30 students. Something important to consider is that most of these materials are very durable and can last for a very long time.
The pencils will assist the students during daily writing activities to express their oral language through creative and meaningful writing. The dividers will the students organize their leadership binders to monitor their academic progress and goals.
The pocket chart and rolling cart will be used during small group instruction to provide ELD and Literacy reinforcement and support, especially for our visual learners and language development. The label maker and laminator will be for preparing materials for small group instruction.
