The First Grade teachers have big hearts for our 175 young learners coming into school each year. Many of our students are considered high risk, coming from low income or poverty stricken home, many who are English Learners themselves, and have hurdles to jump over before they make it to school in the morning. But that does not stop them.
Our First Grade is full of bright, excited, amazing, little learners with big ideas and huge hearts.
They want to learn to read, they want to learn to write, and they want to learn math. So much starts with phonics, with reading, with the foundational gift of literacy.
My Project
We are doing a classroom overhaul to help create a space that is welcoming for all our children. Having more options for flexible seating and the math tools in the classroom organized for the students to get themselves will help our students feel apart of the classroom and also a sense of responsibility. We’ve been working on having an “I can, I can, I can” mindset with our class on working hard to learn to read and know our numbers. Flexible seating and organizational places labeled with words for our math tools will help our students as they work hard and CAN learn! Thank you so much for your generosity.
