Every student deserves access to the resources they need in order to create the best possible learning environment. Due to the socioeconomic situations for the majority of my students
(high free and reduced lunch population), many of my students do not have access to the resources they need and many come from unstable environments.
I strive to provide a safe, fun and engaging learning environment where my students feel confident in themselves and their ability.
As a departmentalized ELA and Social Studies teacher, I am lucky enough to work with two classes of 5th graders. My students have so much to share and I want to be able to provide the needed materials to create a fun, safe and enriching learning environment. With access to more resources for engagement and learning, I can create more hands-on experiences that allow students to connect with one another while exploring their interests in a productive way. I firmly believe that we need to meet students where they are and provide learning experiences and a learning environment that meets their needs.
As a teacher, it is important for me to have the resources and materials my students need to feel safe and engaged. Working in a low-income area, my students come from unstable environments. My hope is to provide an organized, functional and appealing classroom that makes my students feel safe while creating a sense of continuity and dependability.
The items in my cart are specifically meant to engage my learners.
With seating choice using the lap desks, students are able to find a spot around the room where they are comfortable and effectively work. Student seating choice helps with buy-in and gives students a sense of autonomy in their work and their classroom.
Along with seating choice, I strive for my classroom library to have a variety of choices that appeal to all readers. Non-fiction choices are increasingly important especially with the increased emphasis on reading to learn and understand. I want to be able to provide the chance for students to explore real-world topics within our library!
