Flexible Seating and MES!

Help me give my students access to flexible seating options, like wobble stools and soft seats, in the classroom to provide opportunities to have sensory seating to allow movement and increase attention.

My Students

This school year, I have a group of first grade students that are very wiggly. We have students who have sensory needs and stimulation to keep their attention on an academic task. Physical activity and movement are important parts of learning as they help students to learn through doing and help them to be active learners. I have multiple students with 1:1 paraprofessional supports, because of behavioral needs and the need for support and refocusing as well as breaks throughout the school day for movement opportunities. Ideally I would love it if these students would be able to remain in the classroom and receive the stimulation needed from a wobble stool, seat cushion or kick band around their chair. This would allow for them to access the general education curriculum and be more successful as they would be able to spend more time in the classroom, paying attention to instruction. For the other students in our classroom, it is important that they are offered the same options as my students who have the constant need for stimulation and movement. Thank you for your support! My Project

In my school, one teacher has wobble stools and my classroom borrows two of her wobble stools for my students to earn. They love working to earn flexible seating and I see improvements in my students attention and work effort.

Engagement increases with the two wobble stools that we borrow to use for flexible seating and I would love to provide more options for flexible seating in the classroom that are available for all students on a daily basis.
