Ms. Creagh from Chicago IL is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students flexible seating options to stay safe and focused, as well as leveled reading books for our classroom library!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My fourth and fifth grade diverse learners are thoughtful, curious, and full of energy. Our classroom is made up of students with learning disabilities, mild intellectual disabilities, emotional disorders, and other disabilities. About 97% of students at our school come from low-income households.
Despite hardships within the community, we work hard to maintain a culture of safety, respect, and growth in our classroom.
In addition to mastering reading, math, science, and social studies concepts, we are focused on fostering positive peer relationships and managing our emotions in a healthy way. These incredible students take pride in their progress and achievement through hands-on, interactive learning opportunities.
The flexible seating options that I have selected will help create a safe and comfortable learning environment. Beanbag chairs will get students excited to lounge in our classroom library while they strengthen their fluency, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. Wobble chairs ensure safety while students are able to get their "wiggles" out and still remain on-task. Students can move without leaving their seats, and therefore remain engaged in the learning tasks at hand. My students like to MOVE! Flexible seating allows students to have fun and be comfortable without disrupting our learning environment.
Our classroom is a second home where students should feel safe to make mistakes, learn, and grow.
In addition to these exciting flexible seating options, I have also chosen a set of books to help expand our classroom library. We are fortunate enough to have a classroom library filled with grade-level books to read both together and independently. However, students who are not yet reading at grade level often feel discouraged by such challenging books. Our library lacks books that support the needs of such readers. The leveled book set that I have selected will ensure that every student has the opportunity to read a book at their personal reading level.
Your support will allow my students to feel at home as they strengthen their reading skills and further foster their love of learning!
