Mr. W from Milwaukee WI is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students wobble cushions, bouncy bands and fidget / sensory items.

I am a special education teacher at a Montessori school in a large public school district. We take great pride in our students, who are capable, energetic, curious, and kind individuals.
I work with first, second and third graders who have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and benefit from some one-on-one or small group instruction.
Most of my day is spent working with students (alongside their peers) in their regular classrooms. Each of my students is unique and deserves a classroom environment where he/she feels comfortable and supported.
I work with students in the lower elementary classrooms (grades 1-3) at our school. The classrooms are inclusive which means that most of the instruction, including special education, takes place inside their regular classroom. I know, from experience, that seating and positioning can play a very important role in how engaged and focused a child is in the regular classroom. This is especially true for children with sensory issues or other special needs.
Most children (and adults) fidget without realizing it to stimulate thinking, calm nerves or alleviate anxiety.
The items I am requesting in this project will help my students by providing more flexible seating options that are designed for their body's need to move. The bouncy bands and wobble cushions will allow my students to make small movements and adjustments in a way that isn't disruptive to other students while increasing their ability to focus on the material being taught.
I selected the sensory/fidget items in this project, because they are small, quiet and low-profile. Students with sensory issues will benefit from twirling and kneading these toys to decrease anxiety and improve focus.
My students deserve a learning environment that meets their individual needs. The flexible seating options and fidget items in this project will be a tremendous help.
