My Students

I am a first year teacher working at a Title I, Expanded Learning Time School. My first grade students come from various cultures, income levels, and experiences. Due to low income and poverty, our students all receive free breakfast, lunch, and a snack.

Despite the challenges many of my students face on a daily basis, my students come to school with an enthusiasm and love for learning!

As I look around my classroom, I see 24 very unique personalities, all with different learning styles and needs. As a first year teacher, I want to give my students everything I can in order for them to succeed. I love watching my students grow as learners. I know that with the right tools, I can watch them soar higher than I ever expected!

My Project

My first-graders will be returning to in-person learning after being remote this school year due to the pandemic. I have requested desk shields to help our students be safe inside the classroom. I am also hoping to give my students a safe space to work outdoors with the nice weather coming. A beach towel would be the perfect way to space out my students outdoors and give them a comfortable space to learn.

I recognize that it will be difficult for students to wear masks all day and I am hoping to be able to do a lot of my teaching outdoors.

In order to make this happen, my students will need their own personal spot to sit outdoors.

Once I get these beach towels, I imagine bringing my daily read aloud and snack time outside when the weather is nice enough. I also imagine students bringing their own books outside to their personal towel spot for independent reading time.

With it being Spring, there are so many changes happening, and I hope that we can spend time outside observing these nature changes. These towels will give my students a spot to sit and enjoy nature. We can bring our lap desks out to the towels and record what we see, hear, feel, smell in our nature journals. I can already see the smiles on my first-graders faces when they see that they have their very own beach towel for outdoor learning.
