Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The resource room is a place for students to come in and request support in any area they struggle in, both academically and personally. Students who enter the classroom have disabilities and are in need of additional supports that enable them to learn and be successful in school. Due to COVID-19, our physical classroom, which was a safe place for our students, is now unavailable. We went virtual for one year and this broadened inequities for our students. We will be returning in the Fall 2021!

The students I teach are a part of the special education program at our school and the resources needed will benefit students with disabilities.

Last year, when we entered the virtual world through teaching, our students persevered as best they could. The resilience in my students was showcased when they continued to show up via a screen to learn, create and simply socialize within our virtual classroom. This is what has inspired me to further create an online learning experience that not only hopes to support all of their needs, but also focus on reshaping a virtual world that enhances those supports we have in place.

My Project

The materials requested in this project will help enhance students' learning experiences in the classroom. With a choice and clean space, students are able to focus on the material they are learning.

Flexible choices are optimal for learning.

With flexible seating options, students have a choice within the classroom that will help them stay focused. With an organized classroom, they will feel less stressed and anxious.

The items requested in this project were selected by students themselves. A paper organizer and printer stand will help organize our current printer situation, and alleviate the stress of printing assignments between classes. The exercise bikes will alleviate the energy some of us feel during a whole class lesson. The laptop desks are an opportunity to move around the classroom and even have class outside on nice days. The balance balls, desks and multiple seating items, give us more seating options within the classroom.
