Flexible Learning Environment

My students need a wide variety of flexible seating including bean bag chairs, pillows, bench, and rugs.

My Students

I teach 5th grade at a Title 1 school in Michigan where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. My classroom has become a second home and a safe place for them.I have many energetic students who love to sit around the room to work. They need a comfortable place to sit in order to help them focus on their learning.

My Project

Research has shown that flexible seating can help improve the amount of time a student is able to spend on a task and it improves their learning. Having a wide variety of flexible seating will allow the students to choose what best works for them. My students already love to sit around the room but right now all we have are their desk chairs and the floor. I discussed with them about flexible seating and they became ecstatic about the opportunity to have the resources available to them.

Having flexible seating in my classroom will help motivate my students and increase their learning.

My students need the opportunity to move. Flexible seating will allow them to move around without it disrupting instructional time. Some of the resources will even allow them to have better focus while remaining in their seats. I can't wait to help my students become more successful by providing seating options that will help them focus!
