Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, energetic, and hardworking. They learn best through interactive and hands on experiences. This group is always on the move! In fact, they are the most focussed when they are able to work in a way that allows them to remain active. My 5th graders are in a self-contained class and all receive special education services. In addition to these services, many of them are also ENLs.
They love to learn and are eager to be exposed to new topics, books, and ideas.
Our school is a Title I school located in Queens, New York. As a result, all of my students qualify for free lunch and often lack access to the supplies they need to fully engage in their learning.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take ownership of their learning and make choices that work best for them. During independent work times, my students chose a location in the classroom where they feel they will be able to work to the best of their abilities. At this time, my students are able to sit at different tables, sit on the floor with a clip board, stand while they are working, or work while sitting in a bean bag chair. Ensuring that students are comfortable and ready to learn, is the key motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They are more engaged and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.

The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options that will allow them to be more engaged in their learning. The wobble stools will allow them to sit at their desks or at a table but will still allow for some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. The balance ball chair will also allow for movement while also promoting focus. The comfy floor seats and lap desks will make working on the floor more suitable for their learning.
