This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This is the project nearest and dearest to my heart. I've longed for a classroom with efficient and comfortable seating! In the past, I've resulted to shopping for regular sofa cushions and pillows, and experimented with adjusting the school desks at different heights for kids that loved to sit on their bottoms or stand up. It was a success!

Given the right tools and expectations, regardless of age, students will succeed.

I tried flexible seating when I taught a second and third grade combo class. It took them a single day to learn the responsibility of flexible seating. They would come in, choose the type of seat they wished to learn in for the day (cushion, pillow, standing desk) and began to work.

This year, I'll be teaching another combo class except this time it will be kindergarten and first grade. No worries! I've taught kindergarten before! They showed me that they were fully capable of being as responsible as my second and third graders. I want to grant them the opportunity of learning in a flexible environment as well. After all, being in a combo class requires lots of independence and responsibility of a student. What more can we give them if not a comforting place to learn?
