My students are amazing! They fun, creative, and want to be their best. Our school has a very high FARMS rate, over 70%, and quite a bit of transiency. Every day when they walk into class we engage in a new adventure in communication--reading, writing, speaking, and listening. I have students who are reading above grade level, on grade level, and at a second grade reading level. The varied levels require quite a bit of flexibility, planning, and differentiation. Flexibility in classroom arrangement, seating, and grouping is an essential part of planning and differentiation.
My students deserve people who will choose them; I choose them and I hope you do, too!
My Project
I am blessed this year with a spacious classroom which was used as a computer lab for several years previously. The room is equipped with built in counter tops along two of the classroom walls. Currently my 8th grade students, some of whom are adult-sized, stand and lean to work at the counter since it provides more space and elbow room to work. I also have a few trapezoid tables where students prefer to work because of the space provided. Stools would offer students who prefer to work at the counter or tables the opportunity to sit and group together.
