My students need classroom materials and furniture that would allow for them to participate in book clubs and shared reading, work on computers and publish their own books on topics that interest them.
So many of my ELL students are not only dealing with deficits in language and literacy skills that place them at least two years behind their native speaking peers, but approximately 15% of our ELL students struggle with special needs and cognitive disabilities that make learning even more challenging. I am inspired by the resilience and work ethic of my students and am often discouraged by my lack of ability to create a space that defies the traditional idea of what a classroom should look like.
Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats seating and Flex-Space Round Floor Tables are materials that will change the way students learn. These tables and chairs will provide students with various opportunities to work in groups and will create spaces within the classroom to support students in understanding their physical, social, and emotional world is essential in fostering students’ hearts and minds. Repurposing materials and space can be costly leaving us with a great need. At its core, this approach to learning is rooted in providing students various opportunities with literature in order to feel a sense of joy in their own learning. Creating spaces within the classroom to support students in understanding their physical, social, and emotional world is essential in fostering students’ hearts and minds. Full and effective implementation of this program calls for spaces within the room where groups of children can meet and participate in a shared reading experience, while others are working on publishing their own books on a topic in another area. There is need for other spaces in the room to be comforting and cozy in order to read quietly, while others are practicing their fluency by reading off of a chart stand.
