Flexible Furniture Is the Future

My students need flexible furniture such as stools and accessories for our student chairs such as fidget bands to help provide movement and help keep them focused.

My Students

I have a very diverse group of students that are homeless or come from poverty-stricken homes. Many days it is a struggle for them to get to school on time and have their own supplies that are needed to learn. My priority is to make sure that their health, well-being, and learning needs are taken care of. Although these students experience a lot of trauma, they love school and want to learn. We just need the supplies and resources to help make it happen.

My Project

My students need additional seating that allows them to move while they sit. The chair bands will allow students that need to move their feet constantly a more quiet solution that will help all of the students in my class stay more focused. The Regency chairs allow students to slightly twist and rock for needed movement. The stacking stools will allow students to sit a little lower without the constraint of backs. My first grade students love to fidget and move and these items will help in many different ways.

Studies have shown that flexible seating can burn more calories, use up excess energy, improve metabolism, increase motivation and engagement, create a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improve core strength and overall posture.

I have implemented some flexible seating throughout my classroom and have seen first hand how helpful it is to students’ learning and their overall health. Embedding choice into my classroom is essential given the diversity of my students.
