This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

flex-i-ble : easily changed : able to change or to do different things : willing to change or to try different things I LOVE this definition! I think this is a KEY to success in life, whether you are in kindergarten or a seasoned kindergarten teacher.

Be kinder than necessary, everyone is fighting some sort of battle.

Many of my students face many unseen battles, from poverty to family issues to parental illiteracy. I want to provide the kind, safe place for them to become all they can be. My school is an AWESOME Title 1 school, making great strides in public education despite a challenging population. Most of my students are on free/reduced lunch and families are supported by our Communities in Schools social worker and services. We also have a very large refugee population from Myanmar (formerly Burma) This year, over half of my class are second language learners. My students are a JOY to teach every day, eager to learn and discover all that public school in the United States has to offer.

My Project

Kindergarten students are bundles of energy just waiting for an outlet. Each day, my students work individually and in small groups reading, writing and sharing their ideas and creations. These balance balls will allow those students with lots of 'wiggles' to concentrate those wiggles into the balance ball while allowing for their creative ideas to be shared on paper, with a partner or in a group. These 'chair/tables' will allow students to work independently or in a small group, ANYWHERE they can take the furniture. It can also become a house for a stuffed animal, a display area for a project or Lego creation, a podium for speaking and sharing...the options are ENDLESS.

Having this flexible furniture in my classroom will allow for student decision making as to how and where their learning will take place, learning that is as much about what I need to share as it is about what they need to discover.

They will be able to take even more ownership in their educational setting by helping to create the environment in which they will be learning.
