Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the pleasure of working with a group of students in a low-income/high poverty school. All of the kids come from backgrounds which are filled with many different kinds of challenges.

Through these challenges, these fourth graders enter my classroom eager and willing to learn.

Our classroom is a place where my students feel safe and welcome, so it's important to create an environment that is beneficial for their learning and growth. Each child should have the choice to sit in a location that benefits their individual learning and needs.

My Project

My fourth graders have very active bodies, so they are always asking to be out of their desks. Throughout a majority of the day, they get the option to choose where they will sit, stand, or lay down to complete their required work.

It is so important that my students have comfortable options fit for their bodies so that they can focus on the important learning that they do throughout the day.

For a large portion of our day, my students sit on a large carpet at the front of the classroom where we engage in whole group lessons and discussions.

My students currently must sit on a rug that is thin and uncomfortable. Having a brand new carpet will help them focus more on learning instead of trying to find a comfortable position.

My students will use the wobble chairs to help stay focused in our small group work at my teacher table. They will work on things such as math, guided reading, and writing conferences. The comfy floor seats will be used for their independent reading and writing time.
