Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I currently work in a Title I urban school. This year 24 kindergartners entered my class. They are an extremely diverse group of regular and English language learner students from various ethnic backgrounds and races. Some of my students have been to preschool, others to day care and some have never have been to school at all.

No matter what previous experiences my student have before coming into my classroom, they always come with a willingness to learn and always leave with knowing more than they expected.

They are hard working and teach me as much as I teach them. My students are always up for the challenges I throw at them.

My Project

In my classroom, I like to give my students the ability to choose where they sit to do their work. Most like to curl up on the floor with a pillow and a clipboard. With Covid, we can no longer use many of the seating options used for flexible seating in my classroom.

The Calming Colorssupsup Resting Mats will allow students be able to have more choice in how they sit.

It will allow them to have their own space to lay down on the floor, to sit criss cross apple sauce or stand up. The can be easily cleaned and neatly stored. When students are comfortable they can focus more on their work and less on getting comfortable.
