My Project
My second grade students are eager learners and enjoy sharing what they have learned with their classmates. They enjoy talking to each other and spending time working together on both school work and choice activities. For my students, our classroom will be a second home and a second family. We will be learning cooperative and collaborative skills. We will be learning to compromise and problem solve and make our classroom comfortable and a place where students are invested in day to day learning. I would like to provide my students with flexible, comfortable seating choices.
When students are given choices, they become contributing members of the classroom.
I would like to provide students stools and benches to use when sitting at their tables. I would like to provide students with cushions to sit on when asked to be on the carpet. The benches and stools would also give students an alternative seating option when the class moves to the carpet. For many of my students, sitting on the floor is uncomfortable or inaccessible due to disabilities. By providing stools and benches, these students don't feel isolated by having to sit apart from the class in their desk chairs.
These flexible seating options would improve students' engagement in the classroom and create an atmosphere of acceptance and belonging.
