My Students

My students arrive every morning eager and excited to learn. They are the children of hard working parents of a diverse community who value education. My students each face unique learning challenges ranging from being challenged to learning disabilities.

My goal is to create an environment that can challenge the perseverance and disposition of the best learners, and my 3rd grade students have risen to that challenge with poise and determination.

Our school community is strong, with parent volunteers who work together with us to make our school a great place to learn. Over the past several years, however, district technology programs have been cut off in favor of core curriculum subjects such as English, Math and Science. Our school is now focused on integrating technology into core subjects to create 21st century learners and make a significant impact on learning. My students deserve the opportunity to express themselves and share what they know through technology.

My Project

Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed.

My students need these types of flexible seating in our classroom so that their active little bodies can move around as needed while they are doing their best learning.

Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. The flexible seating classroom model has advantages in keeping students focused and engaged while improving their academic and social performance.
