Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Kindergarten students speak six languages and represent six countries! My students are curious, energetic, and they love learning.
My students spend their day learning in both English and Spanish.
We are a low income, dual language community school, where everyone knows each other. They have built such a close community and really help one another grow as friends and learners. They do not always have all of the resources they need at home, but they care so much about learning.
My Project
I teach in a trauma informed school where each classroom has a calm corner where students can take a break. Our calm corner has a tent that used to have a bean bag chair in it! It got a hole and has to be thrown away. The cushion will help make the calm corner tent more comfortable and also help when still new to kindergarten students fall asleep!
Last year, I had a student who had a really hard time sitting up at the carpet.
He did not have the core strength yet and was practicing, but it was still a challenge. I did not want him to have to be away from the group in a chair. The carpet chair will help future students like him to be part of the group, or even just a nice new seat in our classroom library when it is not needed at the carpet!
