Kindergarten is such an exciting group of mixed abilities, interests and goals. My classroom is full of 25 active little bodies with smiling faces. They are eager to learn and ready to take on the world. The joy on their faces as they are learning to read is priceless. They love writing, art, and science just like any other kid.
For some of my students, Kindergarten is their first venture away from their grownups but for others, they have experienced far more than they ever should have to.
I have students in the foster care system and others that are homeless. Our school is a 100% free and reduced breakfast and lunch school.
Kindergarten is a time to begin to explore the world around them. My students live in an isolated economically depressed community and many have never had the opportunity to experience anything else. I want to be able to open up the rest of the world to them. I can do that by making my classroom a safe and inviting place.
My Project
Kindergarten is an exciting time for students! My class is full of wiggly bodies and smiling faces. They are excited to learn new things and experience everything kindergarten has to offer.
For some of my students kindergarten is their first time away from their grownups, for others they have experienced far more than they should have to.
The majority of my kindergarteners are born and raised in this small isolated low-income community. Many have not been able to experience the world outside it. I want to be able to open up that world for them. But, to do that I need to want to come to school. I can do that by giving them a safe and inviting classroom. One way I can make my classroom safe and inviting is by giving them flexible seating that they can wiggle and learn in. Right now with all the COVID restrictions, it is even more difficult than normal for them to get their wiggles out but this flexible seating would be vital for their success.
