My Students
My students are very warm and helpful. Returning to in-person learning is difficult for all, especially having to sit still for moments at a time. Many of my students are demonstrating the need to move and not be in a chair or at a desk again always, which has proven to be a challenge with Covid still lingering. My students are beginning to share the knowledge they have gained. The pandemic has proven students can get together and work towards their academic goals by helping each other. As a teacher, it is amazing to experience this shift.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to be in charge of their learning while also being a part of making decisions within their classroom. When my students returned to school in September, I noticed that many had difficulties staying at their desks or in their seats. When it was time for independent work, some students choose a location in the classroom that worked best for them. Since they are currently adjusting to in-person learning and being back in a classroom, it has been difficult to select a new location to sit comfortably and focus. Making sure students are comfortable is essential in keeping students engaged and focused. I have noticed the difference in my students when they are given a choice in their seating; having flexible seating will allow them to be comfortable while learning and bring their focus to the task at hand.
Within my classroom, student engagement is best when students have flexible seating choices and they are more focused on their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are able to choose where they can sit.
The items that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options that are flexible for each need to provide students with comfort while learning. The wobble stools, wobble cushions, and squares will allow students to sit and movement if necessary. The items will be very beneficial for students who just need to get the wiggles out and work. They will also be used as an alternative chair if needed when working in small groups! All items selected are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom. The flexible seating is easy to clean to use between students.
