Rick Riordan wrote, "Fairness does not mean everyone gets the same. Fairness means everyone gets what they need." I have the privilege of helping 130 students become the best versions of themselves every year. 7th grade is a difficult year for many as this is the year they go from being a "kid" to becoming a young adult. They are finding their voices and figuring out who they are and who they want to be. They are learning critical educational and social skills that help them to succeed as adults.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and have different academic and social needs.
My 7th graders come in ready to dive into their lessons and look forward to days when I tell them stories that connect to their lessons. While ancient history and mathematics are sometimes hard for 7th graders to connect with, they are always engaged in our class discussions and find it exciting when they can compare ancient Romans or the Tudors to the Kardashians or when they have finally mastered a hard math concept!

Many of my students have voiced the desire to have flexible seating options. I have seen the quality of my students' work and focus increase exponentially when they are able to use flexible seating. I would like to give them that same opportunity in my classroom. Having a futon available for up to three students at a time will allow my students who struggle to stay focused in a regular desk have the same opportunities as their peers to succeed.
Giving my students another tool to help them succeed in the classroom will greatly enhance their learning. I want my students to succeed and have an environment that is conducive to learning. By donating to this project, you are helping my students by giving them another tool for success.
