My Students

These literacy activities will allow parent volunteers to work with the children to help them meet the academic standards of kindergarten.

I have 24 students in my kindergarten classroom this year.

Fifteen of them speak a different language and nine of them are still four-years-old. They range in ability from being fluent readers to children who do not recognize the letters in their names. The more appealing the activities; the more the children will want to use them which will give them the practice they need.

My Project

These literacy activities are appealing and will hold the children's interest. They will allow the children to work independently and in small groups to practice and reinforce skills that they need in order to be successful in kindergarten. The activities are at different levels so the needs of all the students in my class will be met. The activities requested range from alphabet sorting and mystery boxes, getting ready to read boxes, rhyming tubs, word work activities and sight word stations. They will cover all learning ranges in my classroom.

This donation of materials to my class will give the children extra opportunities to practice literacy skills that they need to be successful in kindergarten.

There would be activities to rhyme, practice letter/sound recognition, and build words. These activities would be used during flex grouping time to reinforce skills the students are working on and can be used independently for extra practice.
