My students need flex comfy floor seats because flexible seating has been shown to motivate and encourage cognitive, social and emotional development. Research also shows a link to decreased behavior problems as well.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school promotes an innovative learning environment that prepares students to be college and career ready. As a campus, our goal is to provide our students with the skills and education to overcome their adversities. Therefore, awarding them with the opportunity to attend college, become valued employees or to become a successful entrepreneur that has the ability to apply theoretical skills to everyday applications. As of the 2017-2018 school year with a total enrollment of 878 students, 96.2% were at or below the poverty level, 78.2% of the students are considered at risk of dropping out of school and 72.9% of students are enrolled in bilingual and English language learning programs. The majority of the students are in need of additional supplies and resources that would help them excel immensely, but financially they are unable to obtain the needed items. However, our students are resilient and strong. They refuse to let their circumstance hinder them from a successful future. Their resilience was shown this past school year as we battled, survived and overcame the challenges that we were faced to battle after Hurricane Harvey and it demonstrated their will to survive.
My Project
My classroom next year will consist of students with an array of social, emotional, and developmental challenges. My classroom community will consist of 2 autistic students, 3 emotionally disturbed students, 4 ADHD students, 12 ESL students. These students, as well as others in my classroom, are at risk of failure due to their limited resources, challenges and ability to perform on grade level. Flex comfy floor seats will provide the students with a choice to select the best seating option for them to learn and with a means of motivation and movement to create a classroom community designed to increase social, emotional and cognitive development. Therefore, I am asking for flex space comfy floor seats, which will allow the students to sit in various areas comfortably around the classroom.
