This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school started a new Food & Nutrition (F&N) major this year. We are fully staffing a foods lab with 4 separate kitchen stations. Most items have been fulfilled but these are outliers that we have discovered we really need to help provide the quality experience our students deserve!

Our goal is provide a quality foundation in food & nutrition specific to the restaurant industry that can translate into career pathways in foodservice for our student body.

The specific items requested will help facilitate learning in our new foods lab by providing the ability to accurately weigh ingredients, prepare recipes, store food in a safe and airtight manner. as well as fulfill orders and deliver to locations throughout our school!

My students are very diverse and come from a multitude of different states and countries. 74% of our student body is economically disadvantaged and we have a 61% minority enrollment. We are a Title I school from Elementary through High School. With such diversity, students all bring valuable insight culturally, socially, and educationally that enrich our school.

Our student body as a whole is very fortunate to live in a very popular tourist city where we have thousands of restaurants. Every summer our restaurants see 2-3 hour waits. These kinds of demands require well-trained students to matriculate into full-time employment! Thus, we are beginning to partner with the community to build a solid bridge between classroom content, real world application, and post-graduate employment. Thank you for helping my amazing kiddos!
